Yeşim Akdeniz Graf, inspired by Edgar A. Poe’s short story “The Tell-Tale Heart”, reviews it as a metaphor on reckoning with the past. Along with Poe’s stories and poems, Akdeniz Graf possesses a wide variety of strong works from Catherine Breillat’s films, J.G. Ballard’s novels, Frued’s symbolisms and especially Camille Paglia’s “Sexual Personae – Art and Decadence from Nefertiti to Emily Dickenson”. Akdeniz Graf’s works contain symbolism, romanticism, metaphors and posses a strong imaginary, utopian story boards. The artist possesses an ironic as well as a romantic annotation, while her belief that the prime retribution of today’s people are “modernism” and “modern thought”. Akdeniz Graf investigates also through the symbolic language of her work, Freud’s sexist commentary which has shaped the perception in the 20th century.Yeşim Akdeniz Graf is also collaborating with Emre Irmak on a sound
installation particularly designed for her exhibition “The Tell-Tale Heart”.
